Sustainable fashion
Reducing pollution & overcoming fast-fashion
MycoLea is made from mycelium. We are working to solve the problem of chemical pollution, water pollution and global warming caused by raising cattle for leather as well as the production and tanning processes. Mycelium material has the best potential to mimic animal leather due to it’s fast growing properties and ability to mimic fibers.

What is mycelium?
Mycelium is the root structure of mushrooms and there are millions of mushroom species to experiment with. Depending on the type of mushroom and substrate(food) given to it to grow, the end product has different functioning properties.
Can it really replace leather?
Through expert research and development, mycelium leather has potential to be an optimal material for animal leather replacement and has disruptive capabilities.
How big is the problem?
It’s pretty big! We might say enormous! Landfills are piled up and waste generation is expected to increase by 70% by 2050, weighing about 3.40 billion tons.

MycoLea Offering
MycoLea will produce a variety of leathers with different costs and will be competitively priced. R&D will also focus on cutting costs whilst getting the most optimal final product through experimenting with different substrate combinations and mushroom strains.
Mycelium leather is also a better alternative compared to other plant based alternatives like cactus leather, pineapple leather, cellulose leather as most of these require plastic to garner the final look and feel of animal leather. They also don’t match the physical and functional properties of animal leather as much.
Mycelium also has other uses like the packaging industry, structural material and furniture which can serve as alternate revenue streams in the future.
